The Originating from subtropical oceanic climates such as the Canary Islands, Madeira, or Cape Verde, these genera have evolved in mild environments, with moderate temperatures and distinct seasons. The variegated forms, resulting from stable mutations in chlorophyll, provide an additional visual appeal that clearly differentiates them from traditional green forms.
What makes these varieties special
Variegation occurs due to alterations in the distribution of chlorophyll, creating light areas that contrast with the base green of the leaf. These combinations can include cream tones, yellows, or pinkish hues, especially visible under certain lighting conditions.
Each specimen features its own patterns, which increases its interéest within specialized collections. This uniqueness makes many of these plants unique pieces ú in a botanical set.á
Evolution of hóybrids and cultivarsThe interéest in variegated híybrids grew with the appearance of emblematic cultivars such as “Mardi Gras”, “ Medusa” or “Pink Witch”. These varieties marked a before and after in the specialized market.
Currently, there are more recent híybrids with greater chromatic stability, more defined contrasts, and more compact structures, which expands the possibilities within ornamental cultivation.
Growth and Rest Cycle
These plants have a growth cycle different from other succulents. Their main activity is concentrated between autumnñ and spring, reducing their development during the months of intense heat.
In summer, they can partially close their rosettes as a protective mechanism, entering a rest phase where watering should be reduced to a mí inimum.
Substrate, Light, and Watering
For their proper development, they require highly draining substrates that prevent moisture accumulation. The exposure should be bright, avoiding prolonged direct sunlight that can dñamage the areas without chlorophyll.
Watering should be adapted to their natural cycle, slightly increasing during active growth and reducing during the summer rest.
Selection, production, and importation
In our collection, we work with selected specimens both through purchases from specialized producers and through our own production in the nursery. This approach allows us to control quality, stabilize the plants, and offer well-formed specimens with an excellent quality-price ratio.
Additionally, we incorporate recent hybrids and carefully acclimatized imported plants, expanding the diversity of the collection with uncommon varieties within the European market.
Value within a collection
Incorporating these plants adds height, structure, and visual contrast. Their architectural form and color combinations make them key pieces within specialized succulent collections.
