Echeveria "Blue Metal" variegated – Origin: Asia

The Echeveria “Blue Metal” variegated is a hybrid created by Dave Poulgrain that develops an open and robust-looking rosette, with broad, rounded, and slightly convex leaves. Its structure maintains a balance between volume and order, without being completely compact, which allows for a good appreciation of the arrangement of each leaf. It exhibits stable growth and a morphology reminiscent of modern hybrids with clean lines, with a very solid presence in a pot.

The Echeveria “Blue Metal” variegated stands out for its contrasted variegation where green, yellow, and darker almost metallic tones mix, generating a very characteristic marbled effect. Under good lighting, the contrasts intensify and deeper shades appear in the shaded areas of the leaf, reinforcing that “metallic” aspect that gives the cultivar its name. This combination of visual texture and irregular variegation makes it a very interesting piece among variegated succulents, with a different and easily recognizable character.

Variegated Echeveria: cultivation and care

Variegated echeverias develop a lower photosynthetic capacity than their completely green counterparts, which directly affects their growth rate, sensitivity to excess sunlight, and tolerance to watering.

  • 🌞 A lot of filtered light and soft exposure
  • 💧 Water only with the substrate completely dry
  • 🔥 Avoid extreme heat and prolonged humidity
  • 🌱 Slower growth than non-variegated echeverias

Environmental stability, good ventilation, and avoiding sudden changes in location help maintain more compact rosettes and a more stable variegation over time.

During intense summer, they may partially slow down their growth, especially in warm climates. In these phases, controlling excess moisture is much more important than increasing the frequency of watering.
