Aeonium "Zwartkop" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas

The Aeonium "Zwartkop" variegated is a variegated form of the classic Aeonium “Zwartkop”, one of the most iconic bases within the genus, where dark genetics combine with variegation to create one of the most powerful contrasts among variegated aeoniums. It features a wide and open rosette, with elongated leaves slightly curved outward, maintaining that elegant and somewhat wild appearance characteristic of this line within variegated succulents.

In the Aeonium "Zwartkop" variegated, the variegation appears in longitudinal stripes where intense red and purple-black tones blend with lighter or green areas, especially visible in the center of the rosette. With high exposure to light, the colors intensify notably, generating very saturated reds and deep blacks where the variegation is integrated into this play of pigments. The result is an extremely expressive and vibrant plant among the variegated aeoniums, ideal for high-contrast collections within variegated succulents. Plant imported from China reproduced in our greenhouse.

Aeonium variegados: cultivation and care

The variegated aeoniums have a different growth cycle than many other succulents, developing mainly during autumn, winter, and spring, while in summer they significantly reduce their activity.

  • 🌞 A lot of filtered light and good ventilation
  • 💧 Moderate watering only with the substrate completely dry
  • 🔥 Avoid intense sun and excess humidity during summer
  • ❄️ Protect against prolonged frosts

During the summer dormancy, the rosettes tend to progressively close to protect the growth center from extreme heat. In this phase, excess moisture can easily cause root problems, especially with high temperatures and tropical nights.

Observing the plant and adapting to the actual growing climate is much more important than following strict watering schedules.
