Aeonium "Pink Maggie" variegated - Origin: China

The Aeonium "Pink Maggie" variegated is a mutation of A. "Meiji", which in turn is a mutation of A. "Mardi Grass", belonging to the group of variegated aeoniums derived from this genetic line.

During the winter, when the light is dimmer, it displays foliage with a central green band and yellow-cream side bands, typical of the variegations of this lineage.

With the increase in brightness, the leaves develop an intense red coloration on the edges and almost black dark tones in the center, creating a spectacular contrast that evokes the visual effect of “lit clouds”.

This variegated Aeonium shows normal growth and, although its cultivation is still recent, no special fragility has been observed.

Its main appeal lies in the depth and intensity of its dark and reddish tones, which make the Aeonium "Pink Maggie" variegated a very striking selection within the Mardi Grass group and among the variegated collectible succulents.

Growth cycle of the Aeonium "Pink Maggie" variegated

One of the most important characteristics of variegated aeoniums is their growth cycle, which is opposite to that of many other succulents.

  • Active stage: autumn, winter, and spring
  • Rest period: summer

During the summer rest, the plant naturally reduces its activity. Forcing watering or growth during this phase can cause root problems.

Watering

Watering should always be adapted to the time of year and the actual condition of the plant.

  • In active growth: moderate watering every 2–3 weeks, only when the substrate is completely dry
  • In summer rest: do not water the substrate; only light misting on specific days

Excess water is one of the main risks in the cultivation of variegated aeonium.

Light and location

These plants need good lighting to maintain a balanced structure, but they do not tolerate prolonged intense sun well.

  • Bright and well-ventilated light
  • Avoid strong direct sunlight between May and October
  • Special care between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM

The gentle morning or late afternoon sun is the most suitable.

Temperature

  • Optimal temperature: between 10 °C and 30 °C
  • Protect against frost
  • Avoid watering at temperatures below 10 °C

In conditions of prolonged intense heat, the plant naturally enters dormancy.

Important considerations

Variegation involves a lower amount of chlorophyll, which means these plants have less margin for error regarding excess watering, sunlight, or fertilization.

  • Enthusiasts with some experience
  • People who prefer quality and selection over volume

Shipping
