Aeonium "Medusa" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas
The Aeonium “Medusa” variegated is a mutation of Aeonium “Velour”, belonging to the group of variegated aeonium collections derived from this well-known genetic line. Discovered and selected in the Netherlands, it was one of the varieties that helped drive the expansion of variegated aeoniums among European collectors before establishing itself as a reference cultivar. It forms well-structured rosettes, with elongated and slightly spatulated leaves where central green tones are predominant, accompanied by well-defined cream areas.
During winter and in conditions of lower light, the coloration remains relatively soft, combining greens, cream, and slight reddish hues on the margins. With the increase in light and temperature, the center of the leaf progressively darkens until it reaches very deep, almost black shades in the height of summer, while the cream areas evolve into intense reds. The Aeonium “Medusa” variegated exhibits a high capacity for branching and relatively fast growth among the variegated aeoniums. It is a vigorous variety, well adapted to sun and heat, although sensitive to frost like the rest of the genus.

Aeonium variegados : cultivation and care
The variegated aeoniums have a different growth cycle than many other succulents, developing mainly during autumn, winter, and spring, while in summer they significantly reduce their activity.
- 🌞 A lot of filtered light and good ventilation
- 💧 Moderate watering only with the substrate completely dry
- 🔥 Avoid intense sun and excess humidity during summer
- ❄️ Protect against prolonged frosts
During the summer dormancy, the rosettes tend to progressively close to protect the growth center from extreme heat. In this phase, excess moisture can easily cause root problems, especially with high temperatures and tropical nights.
Observing the plant and adapting to the actual growing climate is much more important than following strict watering schedules.
