Aeonium "Lychee" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas

The Aeonium “Lychee” variegated is a mutation of A. ‘Love In The Fallen City’, derived from A. ‘Madeira Rose’ variegated (also known as ‘Halloween’), belonging to the group of variegated aeonium collections developed from this well-known genetic line. It forms compact and very symmetrical rosettes, with thick and fleshy leaves where soft green, cream, yellow tones, and translucent pinkish hues combine, especially visible in the variegation areas. Under good lighting, the tips acquire warmer tones reminiscent of lychee skin, the origin of its name.

The Aeonium “Lychee” variegated features a more rounded and luminous structure than its parent plant, maintaining a fairly homogeneous coloration and a relatively stable variegation throughout the year. It tends to form compact clusters of rosettes over time and shows moderate growth, somewhat slower than other varieties of this genetic line. Although the tones may soften during winter or in low light conditions, it always maintains a clean and highly ornamental appearance within variegated succulent collections. Imported plant from China and reproduced in our greenhouse.

Aeonium variegados: cultivation and care

The variegated aeoniums have a different growth cycle than many other succulents, developing mainly during autumn, winter, and spring, while in summer they significantly reduce their activity.

  • 🌞 A lot of filtered light and good ventilation
  • 💧 Moderate watering only with the substrate completely dry
  • 🔥 Avoid intense sun and excess humidity during summer
  • ❄️ Protect against prolonged frosts

During the summer dormancy, the rosettes tend to progressively close to protect the growth center from extreme heat. In this phase, excess moisture can easily cause root problems, especially with high temperatures and tropical nights.

Observing the plant and adapting to the actual growing climate is much more important than following strict watering schedules.
