Aeonium "Kaleidoskope" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas

The Aeonium "Kaleidoskope" variegated is a mutation of the A. Madeira Rose (also known as ‘Halloween’), belonging to the group of variegated aeonium collectibles derived from this lineage.

During the winter, when light is low, it presents a central green band accompanied by soft cream or white side bands. The most distinctive feature of this cultivar is the lighter stripes that cross the central green band, creating a delicate and decorative visual effect.

With increased light, the side bands can acquire pinkish tones, intensifying the contrast and making the rosette even more attractive.

This Aeonium has normal growth and produces offsets easily. To date, no particular fragilities have been observed, making the Aeonium "Kaleidoskope" variegated a stable specimen within the collection.Like other Madeira Rose mutations, it may grow slowly at first, becoming more lush and vigorous over time. Plant imported from China reproduced in our greenhouse.

Growth cycle of the Aeonium "Kaleidoskope" variegated

One of the most important characteristics of variegated aeoniums is their growth cycle, which is opposite to that of many other succulents.

  • Active stage: autumn, winter, and spring
  • Rest period: summer

During the summer rest, the plant naturally reduces its activity. Forcing watering or growth during this phase can lead to root problems.

Watering

Watering should always be adapted to the time of year and the actual condition of the plant.

  • In active growth: moderate watering every 2–3 weeks, only when the substrate is completely dry
  • In summer rest: do not water the substrate; only light misting on specific days

Excess water is one of the main risks in the cultivation of variegated aeonium.

Light and location

These plants need good lighting to maintain a balanced structure, but they do not tolerate prolonged intense sun well.

  • Bright and well-ventilated light
  • Avoid strong direct sunlight between May and October
  • Special care between 12:00 and 16:00

The gentle morning or late afternoon sun is the most suitable.

Substrate

A very draining substrate is essential for the proper development of variegated aeoniums.

  • Avoid moisture accumulation
  • Encourage a healthy root system
  • Reduce the risk of rot

Drainage is always more important than water retention.

Temperature

  • Optimal temperature: between 10 °C and 30 °C
  • Protect against frost
  • Avoid watering at temperatures below 10 °C

In conditions of prolonged intense heat, the plant naturally goes into dormancy.

Important considerations

The variegation implies a lower amount of chlorophyll, which makes these plants have less margin for error against excess watering, sunlight, or fertilization.

  • Collectors
  • Enthusiasts with some experience
  • People who prefer quality and selection over volume

Shipping

The plant is shipped bare root (without substrate or pot).
