Aeonium "Black Peony" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas

The Aeonium "Black Peony" variegated is a mutation of Aeonium “Mardi Grass” that takes this genetic line to a much darker and more dramatic extreme within the variegated aeoniums. It maintains a wide and well-organized rosette structure, but with more stylized leaves that enhance its elegant aesthetic and provide a more intense visual presence within the variegated succulents.

In the Aeonium "Black Peony" variegated, the center of the rosette retains green and yellow tones that bring brightness, while the outer leaves quickly evolve into intense reds, burgundy tones, and very dark shades that can approach black in high light conditions. This contrast between the light heart and the deeply pigmented exterior creates a very powerful and distinctive effect.

This is a variety especially valued for its ability to darken easily and for the marked transition between areas. The variegated Aeonium "Black Peony" exhibits vigorous growth and good adaptation to cultivation, making it an ideal option for collectors seeking variegated aeoniums with strong character and a striking visual presence among variegated succulents. Plant imported from China reproduced in our greenhouse.

Aeonium variegados: cultivation and care

The variegated aeoniums have a different growth cycle compared to many other succulents, developing mainly during autumn, winter, and spring, while in summer they significantly reduce their activity.

  • 🌞 A lot of filtered light and good ventilation
  • 💧 Moderate watering only with the substrate completely dry
  • 🔥 Avoid intense sun and excess humidity during summer
  • ❄️ Protect against prolonged frosts

During the summer dormancy, the rosettes tend to gradually close to protect the growth center from extreme heat. In this phase, excess moisture can easily cause root problems, especially with high temperatures and tropical nights.

Observing the plant and adapting to the actual growing climate is much more important than following strict watering schedules.
