Aeonium "Black King Kong" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas
The Aeonium “Black King Kong” variegated is a mutation of Aeonium ‘Mardi Grass’, belonging to the group of variegated aeonium collections most appreciated for their chromatic intensity and marked seasonal evolution. It forms wide rosettes of elongated, spatula-shaped leaves, with a well-defined tricolor variegation in green, cream-yellow, and pink tones that evolve very visibly according to exposure and the time of year.
During winter, green tones predominate accompanied by soft cream margins, while with the increase of light and temperature, the reddish coloration progressively intensifies until it covers a large part of the leaf. At the same time, the green center darkens more and more, reaching very deep tones, almost black, in the height of summer. The Aeonium “Black King Kong” variegated exhibits moderate growth and medium branching capacity among the variegated aeoniums. It is a vigorous variety, well adapted to sun and heat, although sensitive to frost like the rest of the genus. Plant imported from China and propagated in our greenhouse.

Aeonium variegados : cultivation and care
Variegated aeoniums have a different growth cycle than many other succulents, developing mainly during autumn, winter, and spring, while in summer they significantly reduce their activity.
- 🌞 A lot of filtered light and good ventilation
- 💧 Moderate watering only when the substrate is completely dry
- 🔥 Avoid intense sun and excess humidity during summer
- ❄️ Protect against prolonged frosts
During the summer dormancy, the rosettes tend to progressively close to protect the growth center from extreme heat. In this phase, excess moisture can easily cause root problems, especially with high temperatures and tropical nights.
Observing the plant and adapting to the actual growing climate is much more important than following strict watering schedules.
