Aeonium "Watermelon Taro" variegated - Origin: Don Suculentas
The Aeonium “Watermelon Taro” variegated is a mutation of Aeonium ‘Mardi Grass’, belonging to the group of highly chromatic variegated aeoniums within this genetic line. It forms compact and symmetrical rosettes of broad leaves, capable of completely transforming their coloration according to the season and light intensity. In winter, green tones with soft cream margins predominate, while with the increase of light and temperature, the edges evolve into intense reds and the center acquires very dark shades, almost reaching black at the beginning of summer.
The strong contrast between the dark center, reddish margins, and cream areas makes the Aeonium “Watermelon Taro” variegated one of the most striking and changing varieties among collectible aeoniums. It is also a relatively vigorous variety, with rapid growth and medium branching capacity. It does not exhibit any special weaknesses beyond the typical cold sensitivity of the genus. Plant imported from China and reproduced in our greenhouse.
Known names: ‘Melon Taro’, ‘Fireworks’, ‘Spark’

Aeonium variegados : cultivation and care
The variegated aeonium presents a growth cycle different from that of many other succulents, developing mainly during autumn, winter, and spring, while in summer it significantly reduces its activity.
- 🌞 A lot of filtered light and good ventilation
- 💧 Moderate watering only with the substrate completely dry
- 🔥 Avoid intense sun and excess humidity during summer
- ❄️ Protect against prolonged frosts
During the summer dormancy, the rosettes tend to progressively close to protect the growth center from extreme heat. In this phase, excess moisture can easily cause root problems, especially with high temperatures and tropical nights.
Observing the plant and adapting to the actual growing climate is much more important than following strict watering schedules.
